"This is very satisfying to drink out of. It is so nice for me to have a coffee mug that is atually big enough fro my hands to fit inside for cleaning."

Ceramics FAQ
Where are you located?
I live in Albuquerque, New Mexico and I create my pottery in my backyard studio.

How long have you been doing pottery?
I took one pottery class during college in 2013. I did not love it. I started to get into pottery in 2022 when I got my kiln. I resigned from my teaching job and started full-time pottery endeavors in May 2024.

Doesn't pottery have to be fired in a kiln?
I have my own pottery wheel and kiln in my studio. I never have to leave home! Except to buy my clay at New Mexico Clay.

What kind of clay do you use?
I buy all my clay at New Mexico Clay. I've used a few kinds, but it is all mid-fire stoneware clay. I prefer white because it is cleaner, but I have dabbled in the world of Chocolate clay. Right now my favorite white clays are Cashmere (it's so smooth!) and Columbine.

What kind of glazes do you use?
I'm a commercial glaze kind of girly. I use Amaco and Mayco underglazes for vibrant colors. Then I paint on 3 layers of with a Mayco zinc-free clear. Most rim and inside glazes are Mayco Stroke & Coats. I like the bright colors and how stable they are.

Where can I buy your pottery?
I sell online at my Etsy store. I will have occasional updates when my stock is replenished. I keep people updated on my Instagram, this website, and in my monthly email newsletter. I just started doing local markets in Albuquerque during the holiday season of 2024. I hope to do many more in the warmer months. I currently have pottery for sale in a couple of local Albuquerque boutiques - ABQ Collective, and Nikki Zabicki's in Old Town.

Do you do custom orders and commissions?
Yes, I do! Everyone's pets look a little different, so it's great to make pottery that looks more like your unique animal. I've done cats and dogs. I make a variety of sizes depending on what you desire, and it can take 4-6 weeks to make from start to finish, so plan your time accordingly. Email me at alishahagenart@gmail.com or send a message on Instagram if you're interested.

Can I microwave/dishwasher your mugs?
Yes! I do it all the time. The clay and glaze is food-safe and can be microwaved safely and washed on the top rack of the dishwasher. If you're skeptical, you can always give the pottery a nice gentle hand-washed bath instead.

How do you come up with your designs?
The pottery designs come from doodles I would make as a kid. While I can draw and paint realistically, I just like the cartoon style and derpy faces. I did go to college for animation so the silly face designs are in my soul.

Why cats?
Meow. But seriously, I started with cats because their design is so universal. Most cats are relatively the same but have different coloring. I've been branching out into other animals and making new designs all the time, so keep your eyes out for that.
